Most medical K-dramas ask whether a brilliant doctor can save a patient. Doctor X: Mafia in White (2026) asks something more uncomfortable: what happens when the people running a hospital care more about influence, reputation and money than the patients in front of them?
Kim Ji-won stars as Gye Su-jeong, a gifted freelance surgeon whose extraordinary operating-room skills make her impossible to ignore. Recruited through Jang Hee-sook’s medical staffing agency, she arrives at Guseo University Hospital, where powerful doctors and administrators have built a system that rewards obedience as much as expertise.
But Su-jeong has little interest in playing along.
A surgeon against the hospital hierarchy
Lee Jung-eun plays Jang Hee-sook, the sharp-minded agency director who manages Su-jeong’s professional arrangements. Son Hyun-joo portrays Bu Seung-kwon, a powerful hospital director whose position places him at the center of the institution’s conflicts. Meanwhile, Kim Woo-seok appears as Park Tae-kyung, an inexperienced medical intern whose encounters with Su-jeong challenge his understanding of medicine.
The supporting cast includes Lee Jin-hee, Kim Young-min and Lee Sung-wook.
What makes Doctor X particularly interesting is its combination of high-pressure surgeries, institutional corruption and an unconventional female protagonist. Rather than following a traditional medical romance, the series focuses on professional independence, power struggles and the difficult question of what doctors owe their patients.
Is Doctor X worth starting?
If you enjoy hospital thrillers, morally complicated authority figures and skilled protagonists who refuse to compromise, this Korean medical noir belongs on your watchlist.
The 12-episode SBS series premiered on October 9, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on November 14. It is also listed on Netflix in Pakistan.
Doctor X adapts the Japanese television franchise Doctor-X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon, but introduces its own Korean characters and dramatic approach. For a closer look at those differences, read DaebakDaily’s Doctor X Korean Remake vs Original comparison.
The series is still airing, so its final ending remains unconfirmed.
