SEVENTEEN Military Service Schedule: DK and Vernon’s Dates Are Officially Locked In

PLEDIS put the notice up on Weverse on Monday afternoon KST and my group chat lost it in about ninety seconds. The SEVENTEEN military service schedule now has two more dates on it: Vernon starts on August 20, DK on September 8.

Both agency-confirmed. Not a “reportedly,” not a fan account with a blurry screenshot — an official notice with both names in it.

SEVENTEEN DK military enlistment and Vernon’s date: what PLEDIS actually said

The notice went up July 27 KST (which is why some outlets logged it as the 26th — timezones, not a discrepancy).

DK enlists as an active-duty soldier in the Army on September 8. Vernon begins his service on August 20.

Neither is vanishing early. PLEDIS said both will take part in every scheduled official activity right up until their dates.

There’s no public send-off happening. The agency asked fans not to show up at DK’s enlistment ceremony, pointing out it’s a shared event with a lot of other recruits and their families there. Same request regarding Vernon’s training center and his workplace once he starts.

Once they’re in, they’re off group activities. But PLEDIS said both have filmed content in advance so CARAT isn’t left with nothing, and closed by asking fans to keep supporting them until they return in good health. The SEVENTEEN Vernon military enlistment question everyone’s asking

Here’s where I want to slow down.

Confirmed: Vernon is doing alternative service, not active duty. PLEDIS’s own notice referred to the location of his alternative service, and The Korea Herald reported he’ll serve as a social service agent.

Not confirmed: why. The agency gave no reason. Vernon hasn’t addressed it publicly. There are theories circulating on forums about health reasons and I’m not running any of them as fact — that’s a private medical situation, and nobody posting about it has seen the paperwork.

The other question filling up replies: why is he serving at all if he was born in the US? Vernon has dual American and Korean citizenship and kept his Korean nationality, which makes him subject to conscription. That’s the actual difference between him and Joshua, Jun and The8, who aren’t Korean nationals and aren’t subject to the system at all.

How this one actually spread

Worth noting, because it explains the shape of the reaction: DK had already softened the ground himself. He gave fans a heads-up on a Weverse live the day before the official notice, so a decent chunk of the fandom was semi-braced for his name.

Vernon in the same notice is what nobody had.

Scroll the reaction threads — theqoo carried the notice almost verbatim within the hour, and international fan translations followed fast — and it’s the same beat repeating: ready for one, blindsided by two.

Then came the retroactive detective work. A lot of CARATs are now looking at how compressed V8’s promo run felt after the June 29 EP and going, ah. That’s why there was no Japan stop.

The full SEVENTEEN enlistment order so far

The SEVENTEEN military service schedule as it stands:

  • Sept 26, 2024 — Jeonghan begins alternative service as a social service agent
  • April 3, 2025 — Wonwoo begins alternative service
  • Sept 2025 — Hoshi and Woozi enlist as active-duty soldiers
  • May 2026 — on Na PD’s God of Communication, the group confirms Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino will all go in the second half of 2026
  • June 25, 2026 — Jeonghan discharged, the first member back
  • July 13, 2026 — all thirteen members renew with PLEDIS, their second renewal
  • July 27, 2026 — Vernon’s and DK’s dates announced

S.Coups is exempt because of a chronic knee injury. Joshua, Jun and The8 aren’t subject to Korean military service.

Still without announced dates: Mingyu, Seungkwan and Dino.

What to watch next

Three names left, which means the SEVENTEEN military service schedule still has blanks in it. The group said on camera in May that all five remaining members were going in the second half of 2026, so Mingyu, Seungkwan and Dino are expected — but expected isn’t scheduled. PLEDIS hasn’t issued dates. Treat any specific date going around right now as unverified until there’s a notice.

Between now and August 20, Vernon is still on the calendar. Same for DK until September 8. Whatever’s already booked, they’re doing.

And that 2028 full-group return that keeps getting cited everywhere? That’s the group’s stated aim plus the arithmetic of service periods lining up. It is not a booked date. Hold it loosely.

What do you make of the timing?
