Knowing Bros’ K-Pop Leader Special Finally Puts TVXQ, BTOB, Oh My Girl, and BOYNEXTDOOR’s Leaders in One Room

Four leaders, four different eras of K-pop, one classroom. JTBC has confirmed that the Knowing Bros K-pop leader special will air July 18 at 9 p.m. KST as episode 537, and honestly, it’s the kind of casting call that makes you wonder why nobody booked it sooner.
The guest list: TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho, BTOB’s Seo Eunkwang, OH MY GIRL’s Hyojung, and BOYNEXTDOOR’s Myung Jaehyun. Four leaders, four generations — Yunho carrying 2nd-gen seniority, Eunkwang and Hyojung representing a decade of 3rd-gen leadership, and Jaehyun holding down 5th-gen barely three years into the job. That gap alone is most of what makes this Knowing Bros leader special worth clearing your Saturday night for.
The Leaders, Ranked By Seniority
Yunho has been doing this since before most 5th-gen idols were born, so putting him across the desk from Jaehyun (BOYNEXTDOOR debuted in May 2023) is basically a live hand-off between K-pop eras. Eunkwang and Hyojung sit in between, both 3rd-gen leaders who’ve spent years running interference for their own groups. Per the original casting announcement, the four weren’t just brought on to be funny — the episode is built around leadership specifically, the parts of the job that don’t usually come up on other shows: how they manage their members day to day, what actually stresses them out, and the responsibilities nobody explains to you when you get handed the title.
What the Preview Already Gave Away
The teaser clip JTBC dropped ahead of the airdate spoils just enough to get people talking. Kang Ho Dong and Eunkwang kick things off by reviving Yunho’s old “Happy Birthday, Changmin” bit, and Yunho — good sport that he is — performs the original all over again for the cameras. Hyojung gets refreshingly honest about what leading Oh My Girl actually looks like day to day, admitting a good chunk of her job is being the one who has to deliver bad news from the company to her members.
Eunkwang, for his part, comes in hot on his own bandmate. Asked to compare his vocals to Lee Changsub’s, he claims there’s exactly one song Changsub can’t touch: “Golden,” the HUNTR/X track from Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters that’s apparently still inescapable a year later. He backs up the claim by singing a bit of it himself, and cast member Kim Young Chul can’t resist jumping in for the high note too. Not going to lie, this might be my favorite five seconds of the whole preview.
Jaehyun gets the eager-rookie edit and leans all the way into it, cheerfully admitting he’ll do just about anything on a variety show if it helps BOYNEXTDOOR, then proving it by popping up the second Kang Ho Dong asks him to show off his flexibility. Lee Soo Geun looks genuinely impressed. Jaehyun, never one to miss a bit, immediately angles for an upgrade into Kang Ho Dong’s inner circle. By the end of the clip, Kang Ho Dong sounds like he genuinely doesn’t want the segment to end.
Why This Lineup Hits Different
Timing helps a lot here. Jaehyun is walking into this taping fresh off BOYNEXTDOOR’s “HOME” landing at No. 2 on Oricon’s monthly album chart and clearing 170,000 copies sold in Japan, so the rookie-leader confidence on display isn’t just for the cameras. And the “Golden” callout says something bigger about where K-pop variety is right now — a song from an animated movie has become such a shared reference point that even a 3rd-gen veteran is using it to roast his own bandmate on national TV.
That’s really the hook of this Knowing Bros leader special: it isn’t just four idols trading stories, it’s four separate K-pop timelines colliding in the same 90 minutes, with a decade-plus of seniority gaps turned into the punchline instead of the awkward part.
