DRAMA PROFILE

2026 · romance, romantic-comedy

16 episodes

What happens when a famous romance actor who refuses to film kisses meets a woman convinced she’s the bodyguard from his own television drama? That’s the wonderfully inconvenient problem at the centre of Oh! My Guard. Uhm Tae Bong has built a career selling love stories on screen, while Oh Hae Ra suddenly decides protecting him is her real-life mission. Neither seems prepared for the other’s version of reality.

Jung Yong-hwa plays Tae Bong, a Hallyu star with the looks, confidence and acting reputation to command a romantic leading role. There’s just one issue: he has a strict rule against kissing scenes, and the reason behind it is something he keeps private. For a man whose profession depends on convincing audiences he’s in love, that’s a pretty entertaining contradiction.

Hong Seung-hee’s Oh Hae Ra has a completely different problem. Before an accident changes her outlook, she’s a timid, reclusive heiress and a devoted fan of Tae Bong. Afterwards, she believes she’s Cha Hong Doo, the fearless fighter from his fictional drama The Crown Prince’s Bodyguard. Instead of simply admiring the star from a distance, she appoints herself his protector. The gap between who she used to be and who she thinks she is gives Hong a demanding comic and emotional role.

Their first encounter isn’t presented as instant romantic perfection, either. A limited-edition hoodie causes Tae Bong to suspect Hae Ra of stealing from him, while she sees a bewildering confrontation with the celebrity she’s admired for years. It’s exactly the sort of misunderstanding that can make a celebrity-fan romance interesting, provided the characters are allowed to grow beyond it.

The supporting cast adds more than anonymous people standing around a famous couple. Park You-na plays Song Na Ri, an idol-turned-actress determined to be taken seriously for her work, who develops feelings for Tae Bong. Lee Yi-kyung appears as Han Jeong Woo, and Han Chae-ah plays So Hyun Joo. Their precise contributions to the larger story should become clearer as the broadcast continues.

The drama’s unusual trick is that Hae Ra isn’t literally confirmed to have entered a fantasy world. She’s living through a mistaken identity shaped by a television story she loves. That distinction matters: the comedy comes from an imaginary bodyguard’s rules colliding with the practical, messy life of a real actor. Director Yoon Jong-ho, whose credits include Lovely Runner, shares directing duties with Lee Seung-hoon.

Oh! My Guard premiered on Lifetime Korea on October 24, 2026, with 16 episodes planned. Its first-episode setup gives viewers a clear taste of the identity confusion and the leads’ clash, but it’s too early to promise a particular ending, romantic resolution or consistently fast pace. Try it if you enjoy celebrity romances, bickering couples and a heroine who suddenly refuses to be intimidated. Skip it if mistaken-identity comedy or a romance built around a serious memory problem is an immediate deal-breaker.

For now, the real reason to keep an eye on this one is the contrast between Jung Yong-hwa’s guarded romance star and Hong Seung-hee’s newly fearless protector. Their opposing ideas of what it means to save someone give the premise somewhere interesting to go.
