Biography
The leader of a law firm does not have to be the loudest person in the room to make everybody feel the consequences of a decision. Baek Ji-won’s Han Seon-young in *Extraordinary Attorney Woo* understands that truth. The executive’s manner is composed, but her responsibilities connect individual cases to the institution’s reputation and ambitions. Baek’s performance helps ground a warm legal drama in a professional world that does not become simple just because the central heroine is unusually capable.
Baek was born in 1973 and developed a lengthy career through stage and screen work. Her film credits include *Montage*, *Han Gong-ju* and *The Poet and the Boy*, projects with different relationships to social problems and everyday vulnerability. Such films demand careful attention to minor roles, especially when a character’s brief interaction reveals something about a larger community. Television later made her face more immediately recognizable, but the discipline of an experienced ensemble performer was already apparent.
*The Fiery Priest* (2019) gave Baek an opportunity to participate in an unusual blend of action, crime investigation and broad comedy. As the nun Sister Kim In-kyung, she brought an emphatic personality into a story where religious commitment and chaotic public conflict repeatedly collide. The character’s energy is very different from the restrained executive she would later play in *Extraordinary Attorney Woo*. It is this ability to adapt to a show’s tonal rules that makes her supporting work particularly useful.
The 2022 legal drama placed her at the top of Hanbada Law Firm as CEO Han Seon-young. She must weigh business interests against the people who work for her, and the audience is not always invited to know precisely how she will make that calculation. Baek gives the character an intelligent reserve that becomes a counterpoint to the immediacy of rookie lawyer Woo Young-woo’s questions and ethical concerns. The result is a more complete picture of a workplace than a collection of courtroom victories would provide.
A parent, official or colleague played by Baek Ji-won may appear to understand the rules of a drama’s world, yet her reactions often show the cost of living by those rules. That tension gives the part dimension. Her work is most rewarding when the script gives its older women independent motives instead of treating them solely as obstacles standing between younger characters and romance.
Later television appearances continued across family, workplace and supernatural stories, including the 2026 production *Spooky in Love*. In that series, AsianWiki identifies Baek’s character as Ok Gye-hui. Baek Ji-won’s most distinctive contributions lie in making the adult world around younger protagonists emotionally complex. She can be funny, intimidating or reassuring, but the characters usually seem to have responsibilities and priorities that exist beyond the leads’ immediate needs.
