Spooky in Love is a remake of the 2011 film Spellbound, which starred Son Ye-jin and Lee Min-ki and pulled roughly three million admissions in Korea. Lee Min-soo (Resident Playbook) directs; Choi Jung-mi wrote it.
Park Eun-bin plays Cheon Yeo-ri, heiress and CEO of the Raina Hotel group, who sees the ghosts of people who died unjustly — and transfers that ability, for about a month, to anyone she touches with bare hands. Yang Se-jong is prosecutor Ma Gang-uk (you’ll also see him romanized as Ma Kang-wook), who is terrified of exactly that.
Here’s the part that matters for anyone predicting the ending: Ong Seong-wu’s Kang Min-hwan, the rival hotel CEO, doesn’t exist in the film. He was written for the series. Nobody gets to speedrun this plot using the 2011 movie.
The numbers behind the hype
Episode 4 hit a series-high 5.8% nationwide with a 6.5% peak, per Nielsen Korea, after episode 1 opened at just 3.0%. The show also entered Netflix’s global non-English Top 10 at No. 8 for the July 13–19 tracking week — off two days of availability and two episodes. Good Data Corporation had it at No. 2 in TV drama buzz on July 23, with both leads inside the top 10 most-talked-about actors.
For a Saturday-Sunday cable drama going up against KBS and SBS competition in its slot, that’s a show building rather than fading.
What happens in episodes 5 and 6
The preview shows reporters swarming Raina Hotel over claims Gang-uk is dead, with Min-hwan stepping in to escort Yeo-ri past them — and dating rumors starting almost immediately. Yeo-ri also takes on a new spirit’s case, which puts her in a room with a violent man and, briefly, in real danger. Gang-uk’s status is deliberately not shown.
